ADDENDUM: Here's where I got a lot of details wrong. The snippy guy at the counter did book Mr. Fu onto the next flight. Fu was a little suspicious of it, though, and was actually checking with the lady at the desk to make sure the boarding pass he got was not a huge ripoff. Oh yes, and the gate he was at was not the one for his original flight; it was all the way across the terminal and he had to make another mad dash to get to it on time. But he made it!
